Help. My Bulldog is losing his hair and has rashes?

I feel real bad for him but i cant afford to pay thousands in Vet bills. I dont know what is constantlly causing this. I shower him atleast 3 a month with different pet shampoos.

First, you should take him into the vet. You'll need to rule out an infection from the raw skin. Your vet will also be able to tell you the proper dose of Benadryl to help ease his symptoms. It is not going to cost thousands of dollars. You should be taking him in for his shots anyway. If his shots are out of date, then get it all taken care of at once. Your vet may even have a payment plan if you can't pay for it all up front.

He has allergies! Check his food; I閳ユ獡 willing to bet it has wheat in it. Change his food to something with ZERO wheat, or wheat gluten. Watch his treats too, since a lot of dog treats have wheat in them as well.

Stop the constant baths. If your dog is eating proper food, he閳ユ獟l not stink at all. You閳ユ獧e not making things better by irritating his skin and removing the beneficial oils with all of those baths.

Add some fish oil to his diet as well. You can just buy the cheapest fish oil capsules you can find. The cheaper, the less processing it has gone through and the better. Just pock a hole in one and squeeze over his food. He閳ユ獟l love it and it will make his coat nice and shinny.

Change the food.

I use Lamaderm for my border collie and it cleared up a bunch of skin problems.

Are they rashes from scratching and itching? If so, could be allergies from the season and they are bad now. Try giving him some benadryl for a while and see if that helps if it seems to be allergies. Also give him a bath to help wash out the allergens from his fur. Histacalm is a good shampoo for dermatitis, more than likely you will have to get that through your vet. Be careful though that if he does scratch that he isn't where he is breaking skin cause then you may have a secondary infection that happens and may need antibiotics to clear up.

It really is best to at least go to the vet and see what type of rash it might be and then consider your options.

sounds like hot spots ... go to a pet store and they should be able to help with something that can treat ... also i agree with Renee ... try changing the food.

You probably won't pay thousands in vet bills, and you really need to take your dog in. There is no way anybody on Answers will be able to answer your question, because they will not have an opportunity to examine your dog. It could be anything from allergies to flea dermatitis to mange. Please take your dog to the vet immediately.

Believe me, you won't pay thousands for vet bills for this type of problem. Also, stick to one shampoo, you could be messing with his skin, changing the shampoos so quickly. Just take him to vet, it won't cost a lot, they will just check him and tell you what's wrong and how to treat it. Believe me, you won't even spend close to 1,000.

Most likely cause is allergies. Start with his food. Check him for parasites - fleas etc. He may be allergic to grass so keep him inside as much as possible. Lots of different things can cause rashes. Ask a vet how much benedryl is appropriate for his size and weight and try that. Too much bathing is not good for him either - it just dries out his skin.

try changing his food to one that does not conttain corn - sometimes dogs have food allergies (usually to corn based dog food) and this will manifest itself in skin disorders - such as rashes and itching - i had to change my dogs food - a good one to try is nutro chicken and oatmeal since it is good for dogs with sensitive stomachs and sensitive skin, plus it puts a good shine on them when their hair comes back - also you may want to check and see if it is flea allergy - this will cause something called flea bite dermatitis and they will lose hair and get rashes - just make sure he is on good flea preventative such as advantage or frontline (3 month supply anywhere from 38 - 50) - that will save you big time in vet bills if it is flea related. anyway - it could be one of these two issues and nothing major, but if it is not a food allergy or flea allergy - i would at least get him in to the vet to diagnose him - it also could be a thyroid condition - which is treatable - only costs about 20 a month in pills to treat (our current dog has a thyroid condition) - i would mention to the vet to test for this - i did and it saved me a lot of tests and money at the vet as that is what it turned out to be for her

Try switching foods, and not bathing with different shampoos so often, you could be drying out his skin causing itchiness. Alot of bulldogs have seasonal allergies too. If it's not the food (try something with lamb, or duck and potato), it might be external allergies. Honestly though, if that quick fix doesnt work it needs to go to a vet soon. It shouldn't cost thousands of dollars to figure out an allergy, and if you have a bulldog, you should have known before hand they always cost money, ALOT of money especially once they start to age. They are not by any means a cheap breed, or one that does well with minimal vet visits throughout their lives, which is why there are sooooooo many older bullies in shelters and rescue groups.
