I am only 20 years old and Im beginning to lose my hair..Any advice?

I have been losing my hair for some time now.. But now is really beginning to worry me..The top of my head its noticeably going bald..Im really afraid of losing my hair..What should I do?

Go to the store and get minoxidil. It is what is in Rogaine, but the generic brand works just as well the active ingredient is exactly the same amount. Walmart has it just in case you were wondering. It cost 20 dollars out here for a 3 month supply. You have to use it every morning and night religiously. Also you may want to cut your hair a bit, you don't have to do a pixie cut but it takes some of the weight off your scalp. You may also want to get some highlights in that area.

My hair is curly too, and I try to wear it naturall here and there, pulling on it to straighten it adds pressure as well. Do you wrap your hair at night? If you do then your style should last a little longer so that you dont have to redo it, just touch it up here and there. I usually tuck my hair back because the front is thinner for me and if I wear it down and forward you can almost see through it. There are a lot of volumizing products that basically build up the individual hairs so there is more to them but it won't change your scalp. You could also look into getting some extensions, not for length just for fullness, do not get the glue though if you do, it can pull out the follicles of the surrounding hair. They have a lot of different techniques.

You may want to check with a doctor as that is a symptom of thyroid. I found out after an entire summer of freaking out.

Shave your head. Some people looks cute with their heads shaven.

Seriously lay off for a whole month on all hair products (gel, mousse, relaxers, hairdye, etc.) and lay off blow-drying, flat-iron, whatever. Brush less frequently. (brushing more breaks the ends causing split ends)

Avoid stressful situations if possible. It's made my hair fall out in several locks! You may want to try what's called a hair-pak of vitamins (some health food stores sell them) This helped me quite a bit. Gelatin capsules work wonders for getting hair out of the scalp.

Also, eat better during this month. Diet plays a huge role in development of hair. Do all of this for a whole month.

You should see major changes at the end of the month. If not, this could be the precursor to a medical malady in which case, you'll have to see a doctor. A friend of mine was losing major hair in highschool as a result of her anxiety problems and heavy medication.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but in order to treat it, you've gotta find the cause. Probably a thyroid disorder or something, because you're probably too young to experience female pattern baldness and the pattern you describes sounds different from the pattern that typifies alopecia areata (which is a good thing!).

See a dermatologist. Try to schedule an appointment soon because the waiting list is often long. In the meantime, take the other gal's advice and try Rogaine (it has been known to stop and reverse hair loss).

Also--and I know this is easier said than done--don't despair. Hair loss is a treatable thing and a surprising amount of females (even young ones!) go through it..............
