Horses loosing big patches of hair????

I need some advice here. The vet isnt able to make it out til next monday, (today is the fourth of July), he doesnt consider this an emergency. So thought I'd ask you to see how much I could find out.

Ok, I will explain it the best I can here. Dont know how to post pictures or I would just take a photo.

My TB, who is 9 yrs old and Healthy is losing hair in big patches all along his hip area and around his head and neck. It isnt open sores, and the patches are all shapes and sizes. There are only about seven patches total, only one is huge. The skin isnt scaley, its smooth and doesnt look irritated, but kinda pinkish with black spots. The hair will also rub off when I brush him.

I am stumped. He has shelter and is never ever left to stand in the rain or muddy conditions, which could cause rain rot. He also already has shed his summer coat, so could it be summer itch? What else could be causing the patches?

Give me some Ideas here please????? He looks aweful.

i would suggest ring worm, thats most common also, my friends horse had this and it was because it was allergic to somnething, um it could be rain rot but highly doubt ful also sunburn maybe,, my horse had patches gone but it ws because he was in a barn fire good luck

I'm sorry I don't know what's going on. Maybe he's stressed or something. I suggest you post this is the horse's forum! It's in this pets section but just for horses . . . that's what it is there for! Repost it and do yourself a favor because there are VERY knowledgeable horse people. Please do this!

im thinking mabye hes biting it out cuz of flies or he and if he has a buddy are playing to rough and bit each others hair out

It could be summer itch though but just for safety of your horse call a vet and ask them about it.
