You need to take her to the vet as soon as possible. The mite sprays sold in pet stores do not work and are like buying expensive water. The vet will look at the "mites" which may not be mites.
What do the mites look like? It could also be fleas, or even rodent lice(little reddish bugs). If it is fleas or lice than the vet will need to give a shot so the lice/fleas cannot bite anymore when they hatch(one month life cycle), and a bath to kill the ones alread hatched.
Blood sucking parasite are dangerous to rodents, as they feed off the animal eventually causing weight loss and illness. Their bodies are small so it does not take long for them to become ill.

I'd take her to the vet and they'll either give her an injection of ivermectin or give you some drops to put on her. If she has any cage mates its probably worth taking them too as they may also have mites but not be showing symptoms yet.
In the mean time its best to keep their cage as clean as possible coz certain types of mites can live in their environment too

I thought my rat had mites, he had little browny-red specks in his fur. Well upon closer inspection (just as soon as he stayed still), I saw it was like little flecks of dirt or something. Still haven't completely worked out what it is.. maybe bits of dried oil. But definately not mites, and his hair and skin are healthy.
But the hair loss (unless it's just moulting) can't be good.
I'd say see a vet.. get it cured properly.

Ask your veterinary surgeon what they have to get rid of mites and you will find that your rats hair will grow back. You do not have to take your rat to the vets so no costly bills but just ask advice and buy whatever they advise. Your vets are there to help you as l found out when my cat had a bad attack of fleas and whatever l bought did not get rid of them and l was buying the dearest stuff from pet stores.As a last resort l went to the vets asked advice on what to buy and bought it plus got rid of the fleas straight away,As the vets said they were there lf l had anymore problems and l had no costly vet bills.

Take her to the vet! If it is the kind of mites that my poor Boyd had, it is equivalent to mange in dogs. If you let it go it will get worse and make her very very sick. Plus, the longer you wait the harder it is to get rid of.
For Boyd, the doc just gave him a little shot, then I had to give him an antibiotic for 2 weeks to cure the itchy places.
Also, take her to the vet in a different carrier than her cage, make sure it is sparkling clean. When you come back, clean out her cage throughly (I used dawn and hot-as-I-could-stand-it water with a coarse sponge). Clean the base the bars, her toys (or just throw them out), her bowl, her water bottle, everything!
Put her in the newly clean cage, then scrub out the cage or carrier you used to take her to the vet. For the first 2 weeks, I cleaned out Boyd's cage every 2 or 3 days just to be sure.

Vet will sort it and she will be much better. I am pretty certain the hair loss will sort itself out when the mites go. Just remember to clean her cage and bedding etc while treating her for mites!

Well if your rat is losing her hair, it could be a skin condition. My rat lost some of her hair and had mites so i gave her a bath. I used lukewarm water and a little non-toxic antibacterial soap, like Dial. She stopped losing her hair and the mites went away. Now every time i change the litter in her cage i give her a bath so everything is all clean for her. Then just dry her off with a hand towel or something. I hope this information was useful to you.

I suggest going to the vet or just calling and asking for ivermectin. You will have to clean the cage very well with a diluted bleach solution and treat her several times because mites and lice lay eggs that are not always taken care of by the meds.
You could get the injection to lessen the chances of this happening however I do not like injecting anything into my animals bloodstreams! Especially such little ones. It is a personal choice, though.
Absolutely get her treated ASAP though! Don't wait around or it will weaken her immune system and could lead to other very serious problems!

It's more likely to be lice or fleas, as rat mites are invisible to the human eye. Ivermectin (or selamectin aka Stronghold puppy flea spot on) from the vets will clear them up, nothing over the counter/pet shop will work for them, and the pet store products could seriously harm your pet. Unless you are able to get Beaphar Anti Parasite Spot On for rabbits, ferrets and rats - it's available in the UK, dont know about overseas (or whereabouts you are). Beaphar Spot On contains ivermectin, so is the same treatment you'd get from the vets. Failing that, it's a vets trip I'm afraid. You'll have to treat all your rats, and clean the cage thoroughly (wash all accessories, hammocks etc).
Best of luck, horrible little beggars, but fairly easy to get rid of with the proper treatment.

He was given an injection to kill the mites and I was advised to change the bedding I used as some types of wood shavings can contribute to this problem.Cardboard bedding ( cardboard chips about 1cm by 2cm ) may be more suitable for your rat- it is sold as horse bedding and you can buy a huge bale that will last for months for about 鎷?.50.
There are also shampoos designed for rats to kill mites but I am unsure of any particular brands.
