My dog keeps losing his hair, how can i make it stop?

I really love my dog, but it would be best if i knew how to stop his hair sheding because i love him a lot.

It could be due to an allergy, or dry skin. He might have been exposed to Mange but lets hope not. At any rate, gut him checked out by the Vet just to be safe.

All dogs shed. Except for poodles. Bigger dogs just have more hair.

Well if he is just losing hair I believe it is ring worm.

He may have allergies or worse Mange. If he has bald spots on his body you have to get him to the vet.

How much hair is the dog losing? A handful? Big patches? Grooming can help if it is normal shedding but if it is a large amount you should take him to the vet.

shes either sheding cuz of the heat change, or something is wrong, like she might have a skin condition, or something, so if its a large amout of hair lose, like where you can see skin, from where shes lost it, then you need to take her to a vet, other wise, if its just a little hair lose, shes probably just sheding!

Most dogs drop their coat in the spring and fall. And they shed year round. The only solution would be to have your dog shaved. I have a Shetland Sheepdog and it's a mess when she sheds. We clean that up every day but shave her before she drops her whole coat. Then there is less hair on the floor.

All dogs shed, it's just something they do. It's kinda like how people shed bits of skin regularly. I guess you could see a vet but I think it would be a waste of time and money. I think the only thing you can really do is go get the dog shaved. But then you might make him a bit cold. Hmmm. Or start vacuuming up the hair that the dog does shed. That's what I do.

Are you talking about bald patches or just molting in the heat? Ther first one needs a visit to the vet, the second needs patience and caring.

So, which is it to be?

It could be internal problems. Take it to the vet and have it checked. Sometimes it could also caused by poor diet, try to give it boil chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, and rice for a couple days and see it he has any improvement.

You can't it is called spring shedding. Most dogs shed spring and fall coats. It usually last at least 6-8 weeks. And if you have a pug, it never stops. Good Luck.

All dogs shed, even the non-shedding ones just not as much.

I would start by bathing the dog with a good conditioning dog shampoo. Use a shampoo brush, it is soft rubber with short rounded fingers. Scrub dog, not too much pressure. Rinse brush frequently, it will get clogged with hair. .

Apply dog coat conditioner again using shampoo brush. Rinse dog while running your fingers from head to tail, tail to head.

Blow dry dog (if you can) not as critical on very short haired dogs. Use very low temp. If you can't stand the heat on the back of your hand, it is too hot for a dog.

When dry, brush dog using a slicker brush. Can be repeated once a week.

ps - if your dog is actually going bald, see your vet

Well.. shedding is natural for a dog. In the summer they shed their winter coat as a thinner coat comes in to keep him cooler during the heat of summer, and then they shed their summer coat by the time fall comes around to prepare themselves for the cold of winter. Nothing is wrong with shedding.. Just if he's shedding alot, and having bald spots appear where all the hair has fallen out. If that happens then you should take him to a vet immediately, and they'll be able to tell you exactly what's wrong.

Otherwise, there's nothing to worry about, it'll stop soon enough.

Is it really shedding, or is it coming out in large masses? If it is coming out in large masses, usually this happens on the rump area it is usually due to fleas, or allergies.

First give the dog a bath, actually you should take him to the vet first, and they should be able to tell you what it is. But the bath is always a good idea, and if it is alergies there are some pills at wal- mart that you can give him, unless it is because of the fleas, then the vet can give him a shot for that.

Most breed of dogs naturally shed some hair during the year. Is it time for his annual shots %26amp; check up ? If so, ask the vet. In the meantime, perhaps a high protein dog food would help or even doggie vitamins. If his hair is coming out in only certain areas of his body, be sure to watch for skin irritations which might be causing the hair loss. In that case, call the Vet.

well if he is an outside dog then thats the reason why it has gotten very HOT out all of a sudden and my dog done this also we took him to the vet and they said he was dehidrated and needs to be kept inside from now on unless he has to do his buisness then let him back in in about 30 min. keep alot of fluids in his body and dont play with it alot let him rest ONLEY at night, yes it os okay to let him have 1hr. naps but not all day naps. he wiil b up all night whineing for attention if he douse this it is your own falt dont make him sleep outside that night then that goes against the vets orders and it lead to animal cruelty if the vet says he has to stay in and u make him slep out side. ohh and 1 other thing NO SCRAPS FROM THE TABLE WHAT SO EVER.!!!!1

Every summer my dog loses his hair. It has plagued me for almost ten years. I have taken him to the vet, but they have no real answere for why his shedding takes place during the summer months. I have found that by feeding him a high protein diet (some dogs have a low tolerance for yeast and carbs), and keeping his flea medication updated, especially during the summer months, helps. I still have no answere for his hair loss year after year, but I have found ways to make it more bearable.

Now I have found that this years shedding has brought some rather additional stressful results. My little Pugs skin is now turning black all over his body. Yes, I will take him to the vet, but I would like to know if anyone has ever encountered this before?
