I am Anemic & losing my hair - My doctor just prescribed the same Vitamins & Minerals...?

...that I've been taking for the past year!!

So, as my hair is falling out so much and I dont really trust doctors, I bought some Iron tablets (12mg) that I am taking once a day or less, in addition to the daily allowance of vitamins %26amp; minerals. To add it up I've been taking approx 20-30mg iron daily for 2-3 weeks.

My first question is, is much this harmful?

2nd, how long does it take to actually start noticing a difference? My hair is still falling out just as fast.

3 - Will my hair ever grow back?

4 - are the brown patches on my face when I tan anything to do with it? (I've had this for years).

What other symptoms should I be looking out for?

I know about what foods to eat, and I've googled anemia lots - but I cant find any answers about hairloss, recovery and how long it takes. I will go and see my doctor as soon as I get back to the UK, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I know someone with your condition and she is also suffering hairloss, she sees a trichologist about that particular problem, basically thats a hair specialist. She has tried iron but that didnt help her because her condition was genetic. She said nourkin helped and her hair stopped falling out, but when she was off them it started again.

I hear zinc helps with hair growth and also kelp supplements too. Excercise is always a good thing because it helps with blood circulation around your body.

It may also be helpful to you to visit a nutritionist or dietitian about how you can improve your diet and your condition. Your hair will only grow back if you can put your body back into balance, so its pretty much an individual thing how fast you can recover.

Stress has a lot to do with hair loss.So does genetics.

Try watching your shampoo to a non allergenic shampoo.

A good herbal tea to relax your nerves, and maybe try some essential oils like jasmine ,Lavener, or cituris

I can't really answer your questions, however, too much iron can be harmful. I suggest finding a NEW doctor, because if the one you've been seeing isn't helping he's obviously a quack...perhaps your hair loss is associated w/something else.

My sister has the same condition with her hair.

It was falling out from her low body weight.

She is gaining her weight back slowly and her vitamins are helping with her hair loss.

It is a slow process.

The brown patches blotches, I have that. Certain ethnic groups like native americans get this. it it common after going out in the sun. Instead of tanning I blotch. My blotch is in a circle shape.

I am using a skin bleach.

I suggest a doctor for your skin. He can examine it and maybe the skin bleach he presribes will make it lighten or totally go away depending on how many layers of skin the sun has damaged.

All the best to you in your health

I can't answer all your questions but I will start off by telling you that too much of anything is bad. Too much Iron can cause harmful effects to your body. I have no idea when you'll notice the difference but I'll tell you it won't be as fast as you'll want it to be. patches when you tan.... now That doesn't sound right. have you asked a doctor about the patches? they could be anything from melanin spots to allergies. yes some people are allergic to the sun. I believe your hair will grow back. You didn't say how old you were though. The hair loss may be from age, in which case you may have to try herbal replenishers for your hair.

Now my biggest advice. Change doctors. Find one who will answer all your questions and will make you feel comfortable.
