My 11 month old is losing her hair?

My 11 month old has started shedding her hair. When I comb it, lots of strands come out. Her hair looks very thin and scarce. When she was born she had a full head of hair and this just started about a month ago. Somethings I noticed was that she sometimes pulls on her hair but I haven't noticed any hair in her fingers when she does it. Could this be weaking her hair follicles? I share custody with their father and sometimes his sister will braid her hair and I'm wondering if this is why the shedding started. We are Black and I wasn't too fond of her braiding my daughter's hair when I realized she had started doing this. I had hoped she wasn't pulling too tightly on her hair.

Anyone know if these might be factors or if it could be a health issue? Starting to worry.

This happened to my daughter, her hair was originally dark and then she lost it all and now has lighter hair. I am sure it is nothing to worry about.

My god, you should be worried...get her to a doctor asap! There are quite a few health issues that can cause hair loss. I hope she is ok but do see your doctor right away!

Babies loses their birth normally... Usually by 2 her baby fuzz turns to the real McCoy... Make sure she's getting plenty of vitamin enriched foods...if her problem continues to be troublesome to you seek Dr's. advice...

when they lose their hair at 2 or 3 months and it comes back-that is normal, but i never heard of it at 11 mos. I feel your sister in law is ruining your child's hair by pulling and braiding, the baby's air is too delicate for that stress. I would never allow that.

I have 2 mixed girls. I know what you are going through!! It is definitely normal for this to happen but the braiding is making it worse. Babies usually loose hair around 3 or 4 months. She should not be loosing it now. You should let the aunt know that your daughter is young to have her hair braided. My daughter was getting her hair braided and when I took her to a salon to get her first perm, the hairdresser told me to stop the braiding all together. My daughter has not had her hair braided since. I also have a 11 month old and I don't do anything to her hair, but wash it and put pink lotion in it. Look into a hair grease that is made for babies. Good luck
